The Big Blue Country Club is an evolution. The group began as University of Kentucky fans that patronized Big Blue Country Sports Bar & Grill in Louisville, Kentucky. That sports bar was home to a loyal customer base and UK fan base that wanted to get together to watch ball games and for other events with their fellow Big Blue friends. When Big Blue Country Sports Bar & Grill closed in late 2011, the loyal customers cried out with a desire to still get together to watch games and for other events.
Since then, the Big Blue Country Club has been gathering at various venues around Louisville with the emphasis on gathering in dedicated areas exclusive for the group, and segregated from "non-conforming" fans! Often there are food and/or drink specials that are negotiated specifically for the BBCC. Usually, there is UK music, door prizes, and sometimes special appearances that spice up the events. And for all the special treatment, attendees are usually asked to consider making a nominal donation ($1 or $2) that is given to a local charity.
Those nominal donations have totaled to over $29,500 and have helped some great charities including Dance Blue, a UK student run charity to fight childhood cancer ($19,000+); The V Foundation ($850); the KIDS Center for Pediatric Therapies, an organization that helps kids with disabilities like autism, cerebral palsy, and down syndrome ($7000+); and special assistance for the Morgan County Long Term Recovery Team after the devastating tornadoes in Eastern Kentucky ($2300+), among others.
